SECURITY AND PRIVACY

Known by name.
Protected if something goes wrong.

Members join without handing their number to the whole group. Every account has protections for the day something looks wrong, and the owner of a Free workspace keeps a key that a phone number alone cannot replace.

This page gathers what ComplyChat does for the people in your conversations. How we look after your organisation’s record is on Why ComplyChat.

01 · PRIVACY

Your name in the group.
Not your full number.

A

What other members see.

The app never sends members each other’s phone numbers – people appear by name, with at most the last four digits of their number – and guests carry a Guest label, so staff can tell them from colleagues.

B

Who can see a number.

On paid plans, your organisation’s administrators can see members’ numbers in the client portal, to manage who belongs. Staff who answer from Microsoft Teams can see the number of someone who is not on your staff list.

C

What we do not promise.

This is what the app sends to members. It is not a promise that nobody can ever learn a number some other way: people still choose whom to share their own details with.

02 · ACCOUNTS

If someone gets in.
A quick way to shut the door.

The same protections on Free and on every paid plan, with more for administrators on paid plans.

✓

Never share a code

The text that carries a sign-in code says never to share it, and that nobody from ComplyChat or your organisation will ever ask for it.

◎

Every sign-in announced

Every new sign-in, and every passkey added, is announced on the member’s other devices. Adding a passkey needs a texted code from the last ten minutes.

↺

Sign out everywhere

Sign out everywhere signs a member out on every device, removes their passkeys and cancels their sign-in links. “Someone else may have access to my account” does the same, and on paid plans it also tells your organisation.

⇄

Administrators can act

On paid plans, an administrator can sign a member out of all their devices from the client portal, and review one account’s activity and who it was in contact with.

03 · FREE WORKSPACES

Your number alone
does not grant ownership.

When you start a Free workspace, you save an owner recovery key. A texted code proves you hold the number; it does not make you the owner. Inviting and removing people, and renaming the workspace, need that key on the device as well as the owner’s number.

Keep it somewhere private. If you sign in on a new device, restore the key there to manage your workspace. Passkeys are optional and do not replace your owner recovery key.

04 · SCAMS

Help to spot a scam.
And to report it.

A

Links show where they go.

Tapping a link to anywhere outside ComplyChat first shows the site it really opens, and its full address, so you can choose whether to open it.

B

A caution on risky requests.

A message from another member that asks for a sign-in code or for money carries a short caution, such as “Never share a sign-in code, even with a colleague.” The cautions are checks on the wording, so they will not catch every request.

C

Reports reach your administrators.

On paid plans, members can report a message, or a person, and say why. The report reaches your administrators in the Safety pane of your client portal, and the person reported is not told.
